Gluten Free Pizzas For The Whole Family

There's nothing like the satisfaction of whipping up some home made pizzas that the whole family will enjoy. This recipe makes 2 pizzas about the size of a dinner plate each. The base thick and crispy with just a hint of herbs. I usually make two for the kids which are just really plain tomato and barbecue sauce with ham and cheese. Then I make another batch of dough for our two pizzas and usually add whatever left overs are in the fridge.

Cooking time.
  • 10 Minutes to pre-cook the base.
  • Then another 5 to 10 minutes once you have added your toppings.

Ingredients:

  • 2/3 of a cup of Self Raising Flour (Gluten Free)
  • 1/2 a cup of Plain Flour (Gluten Free)
  • 2 x teaspoons of Xanthum Gum
  • 1/2 a teaspoon of salt
  • 1 teaspoon of Baking Powder
  • 1 x sachet of yeast
  • 1/2 a teaspoon of brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of mixed herbs
  • 3 tablespoons of milk
  • 2/3 cup of luke warm tap water
  • 1 x teaspoon of vinegar

Suggested Pizza Toppings:

The Kids Pizzas: (Ingredients for 2 pizzas)

  • Tomato Sauce
  • Barbecue Sauce
  • Good quality gluten free sliced ham
  • Grated Cheese

Mum & Dad's Pizzas: (Ingredients for 2 pizzas)

  • Pizza sauce sachet
  • Just a little grated cheese on the base
  • Left over roast chicken pieces
  • Open a tub of fresh mozzarella cheese balls. Break them apart and spread them liberally.
  • 3 x Chopped Mushrooms
  • 1 x Chopped Tomatoes
  • Salt and Pepper
Method:
  • Add all the dry ingredients to your food processor.
  • Add Sugar
  • Add the 3 tablespoons of milk
  • Add the teaspoon of vinegar
  • Add the Dry Yeast to the 2/3 a cup of warm tap water and stir in well (it should turn milky brown)
  • Lastly, pour the yeast and water in to the food processor.
  • Process for a minute.
  • It will likely form a ball of dough (which is ideal). Keep processing it. The ball may break down. This is okay if it happens. It will still be a stiff dough. But may be a little sticky is all.
  • Lightly flour a bowl and turn out your pizza dough in to it. Form a dough ball.
  • Cover it with a tea towel and leave it rise for 30 minutes.
  • While one lot of dough is rising, prepare your next batch (If you are making more).
  • Once 30 minutes have passed, cut the dough ball in half. This will be enough for a single pizza.
  • Roll it out between two pieces of baking paper (Spray them with olive oil spray).
  • Turn out on to your pizza tray and curl up the edges so that the pizza has a thicker crust on the outside.
  • Spray again with olive oil.
  • Pre-bake the bases in a 200 degree oven for 10 minutes
  • Remove from the oven.
  • Turn the oven up to 250 degrees Celsius.
  • Apply your toppings and return the pizza to the oven for a further 5 to 10 minutes.
  • Test after five minutes. They are done when the bases have browned off evenly on the under side (so you may need a lifter to check).
  • Serve for lunch or dinner or at parties. Enjoy with your friends and family.
